In a significant show of support for the South African wine industry, TOPS at SPAR Wine Show extended financial backing as one of the sponsors of the tenth Wine Harvest Commemorative Event. For the first time, this annual event was broadcast virtually from Groot Constantia on Tuesday, 2 February. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the wine industry’s inception 362 years ago on 2 February 1659, to ask for the Blessing of the Harvest and to honour industry role players.
Andrew Douglas, owner of the TOPS at SPAR Wine Show was honoured to present renowned wine expert, Michael Fridjohn, with the Wine Appreciation and Wine Advancement award. The criteria for this award included noticeable contributions towards the image of wine and its responsible use, as well as building the image of the South African wine industry as a whole through their sphere of influence.
“We are proud to be associated with this event which has full industry participation as it pays tribute to individuals who have made such meaningful contributions to the wine industry as a whole. I am particularly honoured to have been asked to present Michael Fridjohn with his prestigious award to show deep appreciation for his four decades of outstanding service to the industry and the many, many ways in which he promotes the industry,” commented Douglas after the event.
